week 3

This week we have made a plan about the rest our time for completing our 20 time project. First we are going to start with making bracelets and getting supplies to make them and our bake sale. Then we will probably make a go fundme or ask local businesses to help raise money for us to donate to the University of Iowa hospital. We still need to call the hospital and ask if we can bring bracelets to the children's cancer patients. Once we do we will figure out how many bracelets we need and will organize a day after school for friends and peers to come help us make some. We do have a mentor though, Mr. Mallicoat and he has survived cancer so he is a great person to help us help others with cancer. We also have done our 30 pitch and it went very well we all got 4s so that helps us feel more confident about our idea and presenting skills.

Checking in

Calysta:

I think your last question is very vital. It sounds like you ladies have a good start. Maybe something you can do is interview people who are cancer survivors and ask them what they appreciated most when they were going through their battle?  Just a thought.

Can not wait to see what you do.

Febuary 10 week 2

What are all of the treatments to help remove cancer?
How much does it cost to have a treatment to get rid of the person's cancer?
How many children are diagnosed each day with cancer?
How can we help people who have become cancer free get back into their life easier?

week 1

My proposal for my 20 time project is to make bracelets and raise money for cancer patients at the University of Iowa hospital. I am working with Tayler and Anjali to make string bracelets for kids and then we were thinking of ways to raise more money to fund cancer research by doing a bake sale or something. One suggestion I got from my classmate was to make an afterschool volunteer time to have our peers come help us make bracelets. They also said that it was a good idea worth doing.
One success is that we have come up with a project and have ideas such as the after school day and bake sale to accomplish our goal. We have found a mentor to help us with this project and a room to make bracelets in, Mr. Mallicoat has offered to help us and we can have a bracelet making day in his class room.

I have found some statistics and facts from this website that made me realize just how much cancer patients need help. http://www.acco.org/us-childhood-cancer-statistics/

This week I would like to research more facts and find a time to do our after school bracelet making day.
